Forged Bee
You can recognize a forged bee when you look just below it, where it meets the decorated spring. If you do not see any gaps, it's a good sign that the bee and spring are forged from the same piece of metal. You can also recognize a soldered bee by noticing a straight gap/ridge where the bee meets the spring.
Many Laguiole pocket knives from most manufacturers, including Forge de Laguiole (7 cm knives), offer "soldered bees" models. Most Laguiole knives found on the market are solder bee models. Adding the bee to the spring by soldering saves time and money; this is why the cost of soldered bee knives can be substantially less. The original Laguiole knives had forged bees.
Horn Tip from domestic cattle. The tip of the horn is the hardest and most durable, Inferior horn handles are made from the bottom of the horn which will warp with time.
Note:The horn handle of the item your receive may not be totally black but rather have some lighter areas. If you are looking for an absolute black horn handle please contact us before placing your order. If one is available we will place it aside before you place your order.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for a friend who is in the military and deploying to the mid-east next month. It is unusual to find a tool that is as tough and durable as it is gracefully designed and beautifully crafted. The lasting sharpness of these knives makes them a joy to use.
When you acquire something -- be it a friendship, a thing, an experience, knowledge or something else -- expectations form ahead of it. The outcome makes you grateful, satisfied, disappointed, happy or maybe sad. My purchase of a Forge de Laguiole Dark Horn Knive from Laguiole Imports makes me very happy. Quality material, exquisite workmanship and it's overall beauty combine to invite my hands to hold it, caress it and my mind to smile.
"You done good," the gunny would say. (Marine Corps)
I would recommend this knife to anybody that enjoys a quality product
