I have many sets of whet stones and do prefer many of those over this stone but I purchased this stone as a “road stone”. I travel a lot and wanted something compact to fit into my pack along with my strop in case I need to re profile a blade. Tried this stone on an old laguiole I needed to fix up and was able to get it hair popping sharp with this stone and my strop. Highly recommended for a traditional sharpening stone

To be truthful I have not use the stone on my new Laguiole knife, no need at this time. I have used it on other knives I own and it put a fine edge on all I have tried. It is also a handy size and fits well in any bag or pack.
