Palo Santos, AKA "Lignum vitae / tree of life" (Guaiacum officinale).
Harvested in central America, Palo Santos is regarded as one of the heaviest and hardest woods in the world. The trade of lignum vitae is very restricted, and, as a result, it is often sold by the pound in turning blocks.
Sustainability: This wood species is in CITES Appendix II and is on the IUCN Red List.
